Coincidence?

Sometimes there are moments I life that catch me off guard and make me stop.  I had one of those today.

Several months ago my best friend from 4th grade told me she was pregnate, then she told me that her due date was a day after Elijah's due date.  I was super excited, for I think she will be an awesome mom.  Due to the baby refusing to flip around, she had to go in early to get the baby out. In she went on Friday and out came baby!  They, like I, chose to deliver at the hospital slightly far from our house but with an amazing reputation.  So today, 2 days shy of my own son's birthday, I returned to the hospitali delivered in.  As I'm walking through the mother/baby floor I get flashbacks of 5 years ago.  As I enter the final hallway it clicks, there is no flipping way, she is in the same room as I was with Elijah.  You have got to be kidding me. Between the baby, the new parents, and being back in the same room I was in with Elijah I welled up with tears several times.  Even as I got home and was talking to BJ about it I started to cry.  It's stupid, maybe it's because she has been like a sister to me over the past 24 years, or because by the time any of my siblings have kids they will be so far away I won't be able to see them in the hospital, but I am in love with this baby and her mommy and daddy.

I think I might go back tomorrow too.  BJ wants to come too.  He will love her too, I just know it.

A boy and a party.

Alright so I'm blogging more, but still not taking pictures on our lives.  Let's do baby steps here okay?

The little girl across the drive had her birthday party today.  And since her parents love her more than we love Elijah, she actually gets to invite friends to her party (but that's a story for another day).  The party was held at an indoor golf/bounce house place.  The first hour we were there the kids we're running between three bounce houses that there was no chance of taking pictures, then of course the golf was all in black light so any pictures I wanted to take just turned out black. Talk about boring.

So due to us knowing that this party was coming up and it is for one of Elijah's closest friends, I didn't tell him of the party until last night.  We went out to get a gift for her and I told Elijah that it was her birthday.  It took us a while to understand we were not getting anything for ourselves, but once he got that down he was super excited to pick out a gift.  When he woke up today he came into our room and was making the plan to get to the party at 7:30 am.  I had to explain to him that the party wasn't until the afternoon.  About an hour later as we were all still in our jammies, he was concerned we were going to miss it and needed to go.  30 minutes later while drinking my coffee I realize Eli was extra quiet to find m putting on his boots and coat.  Good grief child, we won't let you miss the party.  We were able to get him to help wrap the gift and convince him to cut his hair and shower all with the phrase, "don't you want to look and smell good for the party?"  While showering he request to were his tie to the party and I agree.  After the shower I send him down to find his tie, again he disappears for a bit and I call down to him.  He again has his boots, and coat on.  I tell him again we still have an hour to go.  We are just about to leave and I get a text from the girls mom needing a ride because he car, with the beautiful cupcakes just got rear ended.  So we told Eli we need to wait a bit and he was trying to convince us to leave her behind.

The party was fun but bitter sweet knowing that her next birthday will be with an entire kindergarten class.  I'm so not ready for this whole school thing.

Happy birthday Colette.

Fire

A couple of months ago a coworker of mine had her house catch on fire.  The cause of the fire was an electrical issue that was set off by her crockpot.  Since the fire we have talked a little more each day about it, but it does make me think about things.  Here are some of the things that the whole ordeal has make me think of.

1. I am thankful both BJ and I have family with extra living space where we could live for a short period of time.
2. I want all of my pictures stored on the internet so I don't have to worry about that.
3. I have come to the conclusion that other than the living things in the house I feel I could replace everything except Elijah's favorite stuffed animals.
4. I constantly think about not having the dog in the crate when we are out hoping that would give her a chance to live.
5. I have a continus list of things that are plugged in of where fires might start.
6. I wonder if people would know where to find me during the day.
7. I want to redo my kitchen!

It makes you tank that's for sure!

Decreased blogs due to:

Pintrest.

I have no clue when Pintrest began, who founded it, or blah, blah, blah.  HOWEVER, it's a problem.  What is it you say Let me explain.

Now all of this is high tech and on the Internet but lets put it into old school terms.  You have a cork board.
Or actually you have a lot of cork boards.
And they can be any size you want but you keep one each to put items together as a maybe I should try this.
You may have one in your kitchen or recipes you want to try that your friends gave you, or you got from the store, or your favorite.  Maybe you have one in your car for places you want to go.  You could have a note book stored in your purse of organizational ideas, home decor, furniture, art that you like.
Now envision that all your friends have different boards too.  And if you have a non-verbal agreement (like a head nod at a stop light meaning you should race when the light turns green) every time you friend puts something on there board you can see it too.
Then you have the option to copy it and put it on a board of your choosing or ignore it.  But now you can also look at EVERY thing posted ever on ANY board.  Therefore, you can get idea's from gosh knows where and spread it like wild fire among your friends and you now have Christmas, birthday, house warming, and christening gifts, activities for infants, toddlers, kids, adults, and pets, recipes, pictures, phrases, cars, jewelry.  You name it, it's there.  And I'm addicted.  Because pins continue to be posted all day, all night I feel I have to keep checking back so I don't miss the BEST thing in the whole wide world.

A night at the Oscars

(Sorry this was supposed to be posted yesterday, however, there was a baby screaming for almost 2 hours for no reason so this didn't get done.)

First we needed to walk the red carpet.  Wave to your fans!!
Yeah, I know what you are thinking. 1. How did that kid get so cute!  He must have the the most beautiful parents in the whole wide world.  Well that you are right about.  2.  That is the most beautiful dress in the whole wide world.  Yeah I know, that's thanks to my wonderful sister.
They even served us diner.  As Katie pointed out this was much more like the Golden Globes.  Oh, we can't forget how awesome the Gregersen's look.  I mean DAMN  look at them they clean up NICELY!
Don't forget our beautiful family.
I know right?  Those really are the most awesome shoes.  (Sara your wedding is going to rock)
We really tried to make Elijah a star.
We needed a couple of movement and play breaks.  But That is easy to find when you are surrounded by loved ones and toys.
We had a great night and surprisingly we didn't buy that much.  BJ and Jon's boxes went for almost $180 which is great.  And the youth did an awesome job.

Good Friends, Good Neighbors

BJ and I are very opposite in our lives. He is an extrovert and I am a very big introvert. Over the last several years BJ has helped me come out of my shell and I have helped him be better at being okay with being by himself. When we moved into our home I would have been perfectly happy staying in my home and quietly entertaining myself. However, BJ had different plans and met ALL of the neighbors. Over the past 4 years the acquaintances that we had made initially have become really great friends. When I was in high school my great friends were my team mates. In College it was my roommates and my classmates, more or less the people who I was around ALL the time. After my first year of marriage the only people I was really close with were my coworkers and my hubby, however, I was also minimally depressed because I didn't have the connection with girls as I did in high school or college. Now I have my driveway crew. Girls I can wave to, say hey to, hang with for hours drinking wine or sit in our garage and drink wine. I love my neighbors. Thanks guys for being awesome.

Happy Anniversary

Not to BJ and I but to us our house and our fantastic neighbors. Okay this comes a day late but it is all the same right??? Three years ago on 9-11 both our little families signed on our house. It didn't mean that we gained new neighbors, but we gained super awesome friends. Let me see, the first time we met Jon and Katie was because of one of my stupid moments. I went out and bought a take and bake pizza and cooked it in our oven before I realized, we have nothing in our house. We weren't moving in for another couple of weeks, we were just there for fun. So we quickly had to find a neighbor that was around and had something of us to get our food out of the oven, i.e. pot holders. Jon and Katie to the rescue... they had a pot holder of something to grab our hot food out of the oven as well as some paper towels. The second time we met our neighbors was due to another stupid me moment. I was painting the laundry room before we had our washer and dryer and I wasn't paying attention, go figure, and i dumped a whole lot of paint on the floor and down the back of the door. Well we needed something to get it up quick so BJ ran over to our neighbors and got some paint rags from them. Again to the rescue they came. Over the next year we became really close friends and after Elijah was born BJ and I decided to adopt them and have them be Elijah's Godparents. Now we are at a point in our relationship that when BJ and I both accidentally fall asleep at their house, they just leave us. Which makes for a very acquired waking up in someone elses house and them no where in sight.

But it doesn't matter. Thanks great friends, thanks great home her es to several more years equally as wonderful.

Happy...6th? of July?

Alright, so I know I am a bit late for the 4th of July wishes. But in all fairness to myself, there was so much happening this weekend that there was no way I was going to get it all done, and blog. Then I got sicker than sick last night. I mean I haven't been this sick since probably before high school. Blah, I just pray I get to go back to work tomorrow.
Back to my weekend...
Let's start with Friday. I had a full day of work on Friday and then I headed home to get ready for a high school friends wedding. It was my first Indian Wedding and it was beautiful beyond words. Some pictures of the evening.

Saturday we drove down to Peru to get our wonderful little boy from my in-laws and to celebrate my nephew's 8th birthday. When we got home I realized I could wait no more and needed to go shopping. That's what I did. I bought one of everything at the store. I then came home and had a wonderful fire in the back yard with the neighbors.

Sunday we went of to the parade in Lisle (man was it hot), then to Grandma and Grandpa's to cool off. We then walked down to the Warrenville fireworks where we ran into Sara and Dan, the newly weds Aliyah and Derrick, and all the old Warrenville crew.
Monday we headed over to a coworkers house to have a cookout. I love there house it is wonderful. We then headed home. Later that night something moved into my tummy and put me down for the count.

When two worlds meet

We all have different lives as we go through life. However, most people have several lives that are all intertwined, I never felt that way with mine. I specifically remember 3 as I grew up: my life in Naperville, which included my high school life, and my mom, and my brother; my life in Warrenville, which included my dad, step-mom, brother and sister; and my church life, which included BJ. Even though all my lives were continually changing, very rarely did they actually over lap. And when they did overlap it was kinda like guest appearances on your favorite TV show. Every once in a while my Naperville life would get a peak at my Warrenville life, Sometimes my Naperville life would get a peak into my church life. My church life got to peak at both sides because BJ gradually became part of both of my lives but in high school we still had our own lives that occasionally crossed. However, very rarely did my Warrenville life ever get to see either of my other lives. Reason being, my Warrenville life was really about my brother and sister because we hung out with the families of their friends. This never bugged me, It was just how my life was. I was used to my separate lives. I was real happy with them. And since I was older than all of my siblings by several years my Naperville/high school life was really the one that if I had to pick one would be "typical."

Although I have different lives now than I did in high school, I had all three lives in the same spot this weekend and it was weird, but fun. Here's how it went: This weekend my best friend asked me to go to a chili cook off for her boyfriends church. I said sure, I knew where the church was and it was just minutes from my dad's house. However, when I told my dad where we were going, he informed me that everyone that we hung out with "back in the day" go to that church. Well okay, guess I should get ready to see everyone that I really haven't seen in AGES. Well sure enough just about everyone was there! And of course there I was, without my family, and never there before. Several people took a couple of minutes to place me then we did a whole bunch of catching up. This was all followed by, "why are you here?" Well my answer was my best friend from high school is dating someone at this church and they entered the cook off. They then of course wanted to know who my friend was dating. Umm... "Dan" was all I could answer. After several of these questions I decided it would be a good idea to figure out his last name. I was also told just tell them, "Kim's son." Right, got it. Then as I told all of the Warrnville people, I found out most of them knew his family. In fact, many of them had helped in making their chili. How weird. Which made me think, "my family probably knows his family." Sure enough get home and let them know who the family was, yup they knew his family. Who knew that if I would have lived in Warrnville my whole life, and never had my Naperville life, I would have probably met up with my high school best friend because her current boyfriend and I would have been the same age and everyone in Warrenville knows everyone else. Freaky!!

Day at the Auto Show!

Last year on Valentines Day BJ and I headed to the Auto show. Last year I was preggers and in a a lot of pain with all that walking and standing and everything. This year different story. This year there was not a baby on the inside of me but a giant child on the outside fo me. This year we also had our neighbors come with us. Here are some pictures of us enjoying all the shinny cars and cool things. We child tested many vehicles and I took every captain's seat in and out of every "van" there. Those things are heavy, but, if I will be the one doing it, then I have to do it all by myself. I have to say the easiest of all of them were the Town and Country and the Dodge Van which is basically the same thing. BJ is now sound asleep on the neighbors couch while Elijah is up stairs in his pack-n-play sleeping. Overall it was a great day, good friends, good food, and good entertainment.First we tried out a motorcycle. This is the only place mommy will let me ride one. Especially without a helmet!
Then I found a car that met it's match with a circular saw. I thought the big round thing in my face was a really big teething ring. It tasted kinda funny and mommy wouldn't let me eat it Then we headed over so I could flirt with the Blackhawks Ice Crew!
Here is my little Mini man in a Mini Cooper. How cute.
Hey cool, this truck has a playpen in the back of it. Awesome!
Here is Elijah getting plowed while eating his bottle.
There were cars there made by Ford that you could customize for your business. Well we found one that I think the logo should have been placed differently on the car. Here is the full logo:
Here is what it said when you open the door. I thought it was funny.

Happy Halloween and All Saints Day

Yesterday we celebrated Elijah's first Halloween. In the morning we just sat around the house and took pictures with our pumpkins. The little one is Elijah's pumpkin that I carved for him, the big one is BJ's pumpkin he carved for his favorite team, and the medium pumpkin is mine that our neighbor carved for me since I had Elijah. That night we drove to the city to visit two of my old co-workers who just moved and actually moved less than a mile of each other. We ended up doing drinks and appetizers at one house, then dinner and dessert at the other. We walked between the two houses because we found a great parking spot and didn't want to have to give it up. As we walked between the houses all dressed up families were handing us candy. So even though Elijah was sound asleep for the walk his first trick-or-treating experience was successful in getting mommy and daddy candy.

What I did on my Blog Vacation

I figured it has been several days since I have last posted. A lot has happened in those days so I figured I would write this blog as if it was an assigned paper in fifth grade. I will be doing my presentation on Monday if you want to see the live version.

Well on the first day of my blog vacation the snow that had fallen the day before was perfect packing snow so Tania and I went out to make a snow bunny. He was real cute then we decided to move our snowmen from the previous day so they could all hang out together by the side of the road. Here are our snowmen the biggest on is Bunny, the medium sized one is Frosty, and the littlest one is Alien baby.
Then over the next week we had our going away/Christmas party and we said goodbye to each other. I got a whole bunch of polar bear stuff. Tania made me a quilt and on the squares she ironed on pictures she had taken when she went to the Detroit zoo way long ago. It is super cute. Jen made me a shawl that is so super soft and prity, and I got a polar bear stuffed animal. Tarra made me some beautiful Christmas ornaments. Jenny gave me a polar bear fleece blanket and a framed picture of us from pub crawl along with a Sudoku book of puzzles. And Molly gave me a pink thong with a cute Victoria Secret bag.

I then took the last of my finals. It was really kind of pathetic because as I was sitting in the test I started thinking this is my last final ever! I almost started to cry, but then I pulled myself together so I could finish the test without totally breaking down. Then I said goodbye to all my friends at school and got a bit teary eyed. Then I went home and finished loading my car and said goodbye to Jen and Tania. That made me really cry. So after I was balling I got in my car and drove home. The entire drive home (4 hours) I cried. I don't know why really because I hate school and I kicked and and screamed when it was time to go to grad. school and I always hated being there so it was stupid for me to cry all the way home. But then I realized that I was crying more because I was finally done with school, and after 6 years of college the hardest part was done. I was also crying because I made some real close friends while I was at school. I have had close friends through out my life, but these girls I got along with in a wired way. It is hard to explain the type of friendship I have made with these girls but I hope that I can keep these friends.

So then the Christmas holiday started for me. I had Christmas with my mother, then step-dad, then my father, then BJ's family, then we drove to Michigan and had the last Christmas with my family in Michigan. I got theater tickets from my mother, a wireless mouse for my laptop from Brian, some puzzles and clinic materials from my father and Kelly, luggage from BJ's family, a Vikings football jersey from BJ and some mind teaser puzzles from the dirty Santa in Michigan. This Christmas was just as stressful as all the other Christmas' before and it seemed different because I didn't get to spend my three days with Katie in Michigan.

While in Michigan I went ice skating and didn't even fall!!! It was real cool! Then we went to the U of M basketball game. They one as they have for the past three years that we have been going to the games. Brett is so funny when we go to these games. He gets so excited and so worked up it just makes me laugh. Him and one of my cousins decided to sneak down and sit in the student section. It was funny. Then they decided to stay late and watch the U of M football game on the big screen. Then they came home at half time and watched the rest of the game on Granddad's new TV. IT was a close game with an awesome ending play that was so close to scoring and winning but granted, they lost. It was sad. Maybe next year.

While I was in Michigan, BJ was home sicker than a dog. Apparently one of the people who came over for Christmas brought the flu virus with them. Everyone but four people came down with the flu. It was bad. I thankfully was one of the ones who did not come down with the flu.

Tonight we are off to a wedding for a high school friend and tomorrow we will be going out some where for the new year. However, the plans keep changing so I don't really know where we will be going or how we will be spending our new year. Lots will be happening this next year so the beginning will determine how much fun this next year will be.

Thanks for listening to me ramble. Let me know how you spent your vacation!

Fun in the Snow

It's snowing here again today. I love when it snows and I don't have to go anywhere. Well today I officially got the full $20.00 out of my boots. After I got home from school I took a quick cat nap, then Tania came down and we sat here for awhile watching it snow. After a few min. We decided we should go out and play in the snow. So I borrowed a pair of snow pants from Tania and we went outside to have fun. Over a few hours we each made three snow angles, and together made two little snow men. The snow man were little because the snow wasn't packing all that well and we had to scoop it into a pile and pack the pile then we added sticks and stuff for the extra bits. I will go take a picture of it tomorrow if the remaining snow does not burry them. We were supposed to get about 6-8 inches of snow today and an extra 3 inches over night so it will be deep by the morning. It was fun to be a kid again! And I mean we went all out, crawling, rolling, and jumping in the snow. Many of the other tenants in the apartment thought we were little kids playing but then they realized it was me and Tania and they laughed at us.

The sewing machine Drama

Sew, Tania has been trying to buy this sewing machine from Singer for the past week. However, the problems that just keep coming up are making her try and figure out if it is really worth it. First, she went to JoAnn fabrics and tried to special order it through there. However, they were making her jump through hoops and not accepting her credit card. Then, Tania called her husband and had him buy the machine in Detroit and mail it to her here. But when he went to pay for the machine they told him there were insufficient funds in the account. After a bunch of phone calls they found out that JoAnn's charged the account even though they told them they didn't. So after they canceled the order and got the money back in their account her husband bought the machine and shipped it to her. It arrived here on Wednesday night and she was super excited. Then on Thursday, another sewing machine arrived at her house. After more investigation JoAnn's didn't cancel her order and charged her account once more for the machine. So now she has insufficient funds in her account, two really expensive sewing machines and JoAnn's saying they don't have any recollection of contact with Tania. Sew, we called FedEx yesterday to get them to come back and pick up the boxes because they should have never left it here in the first place. We told them to pick it up at our house though because Tania was going to be gone all day. Well they didn't they went to her apartment and we still have both sewing machines. Tania is way mad. So hopefully everything will get worked out soon but he moral of the story is never buy a sewing machine from JoAnn's.

Look in to the Past

Ah 8 years ago today was BJ's and my first date. So in honor of this event we will appreciate all those who pushed me to that moment and those after. First my bestest friend Sara, Thanks for all the whispering and giggling we did all through junior high about my dumb crushes on all those funny nicknames we gave guys so they didn't know we were talking about them. Second, thanks to Juliet for letting me drool over him when we went to Colorado and making me asking him to Homecoming. Third, Thanks to BJ for being a good guy and going to a dance at a school you didn't know with people you had never met and a girl you didn't really know existed. Fourth, thanks to Tracy (or Sara I forgot which one) for clarifying the whole "did he have a girlfriend" situation. And lastly for Sara for that wired phone call the following night while we were all talking on Instant messenger and relaying the message to BJ that I would "go out" with him if he asked me to. Whew looking back, man were we silly teenagers. And wow Sara didn't realize how much you influenced the BJ situation at that time. So now 8 years later, BJ sent me a bunch of flowers, they almost made me cry. I'll talk a picture of them tomorrow. Thanks BJ.

Smile Toes

I spent such a long time this weekend doing homework that I needed a break (that and my toes were getting a bit scary looking). I spent over 16 hours working on school stuff I got a lot of stuff done for all these classes. It was a very productive weekend so I deserved a little extra treat. I also have a wedding to go to this weekend. It is BJ's family up in Minnesota, yikes my first time to Minnesota. I have to look good when I meet the new family. So here are my toes. Sorry about my ugly feet.

While the nail lady was massaging my legs/feet it felt so nice I almost fell asleep. That would have been bad since I had one of my professors books on my lap and it would have fallen in the water.

Other weekend activities, I took my roomies to 40 year old virgin on Friday because we all had a very stressful week. On Saturday I spent a long time at school but we walked downtown to what we thought was going to be a big festival, Yeah we were soooo wrong. It was actually sad and we had to turn around and go home because it was so sad.

Taco, Taco, Taco

Ah yes, what else can motivate a graduate student more than food? Answer, NOTHING. Today we decided to have a taco bar! And yum, yum was that food good. Tania made a chocolate pound cake with raspberry glaze; Jen made something with brownies, frosting, peanut butter, chocolate, and rice krispies; and I just cooked 3 pounds of turkey. While cooking the taco meat I had some trouble (sorry Tania) it kind of flung all over because two pounds were still frozen. OOPS! But I cleaned it up, its all good. So after we got back to school we stuffed our faces then sat through a class that absolutely had no relevance to Tania or I. To keep ourselves busy Tania and I played the dot game, you know the one where you draw lines to make boxes and the one with the most boxes wins. Yeah well Tania kicked my butt and I had to do everything to keep from laughing to hard and draw attention that I wasn't paying attention.

I do have to say that I wish I could have taken a picture of Tania's cake. It was in the shape of a sand castle set on brown sugar for sand. It was really cute, and Katie it would be a perfect cake pan for you seeing as your engagement involved a sand castle.

What a weekend

Okay, so I know it's been awhile since I blogged last, but I get so burned out during the last part of the week and the rest of the time I'm just on the go. So lets see, what is going on in my life? Well that answer is procrastination! Yes I do have to admit it, I have been pushing things until the end of the weekend. Now most of the stuff that I wanted to get done are not due in the near future, but still I wanted to get them done. So Friday, we went out to dinner and rented a movie, Saturday I slept until noon, woke up and stared at my textbooks until Tania encouraged me and Jen to accompany her to TARGET, where we spent at least 2 hours just wandering around the store. Then today Jen managed to convince me to go out for dinner/ice cream. Ahhh what great friends!!!! But no worries, all the homework is completed! On for a great week, hopefully it won't be nearly as exhausting as last week and I will get more blogging done!!! Hey last thing I want is to keep all of you in the dark on my life!!!

Love you!

Road Trip

Yesterday we decided to go on a road trip to Appleton, WI. We wanted to go shopping and that is where the best mall is, even though it is over an hour away from us. I woke up that morning and felt ambitious and made two CD's full of fun and upbeat music to keep us going for the trip. What I should have done was look up directions on how to get to the mall seeing as the last time either Jen or I had been there was over a year ago and we kind of got lost on the back roads of Wisconsin. So off we went after about an hour Nancy (who came with us) told us we probably should have taken an exit a couple miles ago. Okay, no problem we will just turn around right? Well I am used to Chicago highways where all the exits lead to streets, not other highways. So after making some scary exits and U-turns we finally are heading back in the right direction and make it to the mall only about an hour later than we should have. We then had a successful day shopping (I bought both BJ and my anniversary present because it was such a great deal I couldn't pass it up.) (PS BJ you owe me for your present because I am not buying my own present.) After shopping it is only natural to be hungry so off we went to dinner. Jen and Nancy were up for a new experience so we decided to eat at Hooters. As always the food was excellent and both Jen and Nancy were surprised at how "normal" of a restaurant it was. Then came the ride home. Yeah remember all those times when you were young and your mom told you to use the bathroom before you left, yeah that would have been a good idea. Well about 20 min. Into the drive both Nancy and I had to use the bathroom soooooooo bad that we thought we were going to cry. (Guess I shouldn't of had that second glass of iced tea.) Well when your in the middle of nowhere the is nowhere to go to the bathroom and you just have to hold it. When we got home it was a fight for the bathroom but no worries neither of us had accidents. Overall it was a fun and exciting trip that taught us to use the bathroom before we leave on long trips and get directions so those long trips aren't longer than they need to be.
