Scissors and Polar Bears

So last night I was talking about scissors and realized that scissors is a pluralized word, but I don't really understand why. I mean it is weird to be like that pen, that paper, those scissors. Jen and Tania both think it is because there are two blades and that is what makes scissors plural. But they are stuck together so that should make them one thing right? Stupid English.

As most people know, I love polar bears. So we were looking into trips where you spend days upon days in the cold looking for polar bears in there natural environment. Brr, but really cool and kind of expensive. To freeze for a week it costs like $4,000. So, so much for that fun idea. I will have to save money for the next 10 years just to get their, but never fear, I will see the polar bears (and maybe take a little one home).

Oh and Happy Birthday to Katie!

Traffic, traffic

Okay, so I thought the traffic going home was sucky but man coming back sucked even more!!!! 14 miles of tollway traffic and 4 miles of construction traffic. About 2 hours total of delays. GRRR good thing there are only a couple more trips I have to make, and I could probably convince people to come with me on those other trips.

Well this week is going to be another slow blog week! Sorry. But Im almost done, so its not too bad. This is all that is due on Monday, the 5th of December:
1. A five - six page paper.
2. Make notecards for the Cleft palate class I'm in
3. Memorize the notecards for the test.
4. Make a culture handout for the Asian cultures.
5. Final therapy reports.

However, after all that is done, I will be done. Next semester I will have to work and write a 20 page paper, which really isn't that bad when taken into consideration.

Alright I'm off and I really wish all the dumb people get there butts in gear. It's the holiday season, be cheery and no more extra stuff right now I'm juggling all the friends I can right now. (I love you all).

Happy Thanksgiving

Well the turkey has been cooked the mashed potatoes eaten and the home made cranberry sauce has been spread over all the left overs. YUM. I hope all of your Thanksgiving dinners were delicious! I know mine was, and the best part about it I just had to show up and eat. However, next year BJ and I have been discussing the possibility of doing the dinner. AHH what are we thinking, were thinking the more food at our house the less time we have to spend in the car driving between houses.

Let me see, it has been a while since I blogged so I should probably catch you up on my life. On Wednesday night I drove home from Wisconsin. Now, I don't really enjoy driving in Wisconsin because I am scared of the state troopers. If they catch you speeding it's really expensive because they are allowed to be mean to out of state drivers. It sucks. Plus everyone drives like 5 under the speed limit. It is so frustrating and stressful I don't enjoy the drive. Then as I was getting close to the Illinois boarder, HUGE traffic jam! I'm talking 8-10 miles of bumper to bumper traffic. At first I was thinking oh, there is probably an accident, I hope everyone is okay, and I hope it can get cleaned up quickly. But then 30 minutes later I realize that the traffic is all the way from Illinois. It was Toll traffic. 10 Miles of toll traffic? This is ridiculous! Okay, so I grin and bear it because there is no other way to go and if I pulled off it would only delay me getting home that much longer. So I get to the toll plaza and Guess what! The state of Illinois Department of Transportation is STUPID! The toll plaza was under construction with all the signs taken down. So all the people from out of state were way confused and the lanes were all scrambled so even I didn't know where I was going. Yeah smart idea guys, start construction before the winter Holidays! So now I have to look forward to going back to Wisconsin and doing it all over again.

On the other hand when I was driving in Wisconsin it was still a little light out and this big orange thing in a tree caught my eye. When I looked at what it was, It was a hunter in his deer stand. I thought it was funny I could see one from the highway. (Oh and my sister thought a deer stand was the same darn thing as I did.)

So I think that's about it for right now, last night BJ and I went out to dinner at this new restaurants, it was very nice and reasonably well priced. They had $0.01 glasses of wine on Friday so it was good deal. Then we went to see Harry Potter so BJ could see it. Tonight, I am going to get my hair done. I figured with working Thursday and Friday I made enough money to get my hair done, maybe then I will actually style my hair if I like the length and color. (This is what I am going to look like after I get my Hair done.)

Our own little piece of history

A weird thing happened yesterday. Molly, one of the girl in the speech program, was working with her desk and all of a sudden her desk locked on her. One of her draws was even open. So after a little bit of wrestling we finally gave up and declared it locked. We tried the keys and they didn't work, it kind of sucked. So the school called the lock smith and he came to open her poor desk. Well they kind of found a treasure when they opened her desk. First they found a real floppy disk. You know one of those big and truly floppy disks. Plus they found about four different sheets of paper. One was some ones job application for, are you ready of this one, Febuary 23, 1981. I wasn't even born then. A couple of the other sheets were from 79, and 80. I just wonder how long the person who lost those pieces of paper looked for them before they gave up. I thought of my cousin Katie who would have just been in love with the idea of a secret literally locked in her desk. Sorry Katie I didn't save them for you.

PS I get to sneak out of my Grad assistant job early tomorrow so I can go home and get sleep before I have to be at work at 7:00 am on Thanksgiving morning. One more year where I have to miss the Macy's Thanksgivning Day Parade. I don't even remember the last time I was in my pajamas watching the Rockets perform. It is still my biggest wish to see the New York Rockets perform their Christmas show. I mean to become a Rocket means you have to be one of the most perfect team dancers and their legs are just fabulous. To me they are the Ideal dancer. (One year I had tickets to the show in Chicago but I only got to see the last 20 minutes. It still makes me cry a little to think I was that close to seeing the whole show and I missed it.)

Sugar Plums and sweet stuff

As I sit in front of my computer at 11:00 at night I think to my self. This is stupid, I could so be going to bed right now and getting some sleep. However, due to my stupid obsession with my boyfriend I think I should sit up and wait for the last 2 minutes of a football game to conclude so I could talk to him for just a bit. But I shouldn't blame it all on him, I mean I am living in Wisconsin and can't stand the Green Bay Packers so I guess I wouldn't really mind if they lost. I always hate the last 2 minutes of a football game because they seem to last FOREVER. The coaches have this strategy of saving all their timeouts so they can drag out the agony of a loss or try and throw the other team off by stopping and starting over and over again.

Well GO Vikings, I hope you win so the game is over. I think I might cry if it goes into over time.

Harry Potter!!!

OH MY GOODNESS! HARRY POTTER WAS AWESOME! Yes, we went to go see it at 9:30 and 150 minutes later it was over. It left me speechless. These movies get better and better with every episode. And to answer all your questions, I finished just about all of my homework today, all I have left to do is correct my papers and write two final therapy reports. I was trying to work on my Cleft Palate homework but it seems like the answers are nowhere to be found.

Alright, I going to go and see if I can burn off some of this caffeine from the large wild cherry coke I finished during the movie. I really am sort of sleepy. Plus I still have so much to do. It will feel nice once I get all these major projects done and I can just ride out the semester. I can't wait.

NERD

I almost want to cry because my Friday is more depressing than the worst case senerio. So here is my day. First, I can't wait up so I am running just a little behind. Then I can't get my contacts in, they just keep jumping out of my eyes. Then I don't have time to get breakfast, realize it has snowed and don't have time to move my car so I decide I will just shovel later. Get to school and lose the feeling in my fingers because it is so cold there. I eventually come home when I cant feel my fingers or toes. Now comes the nerdy part. I have spent the last three hours writing papers and reflections it doesn't even feel like a Friday. I know I'm whinny tonight but I am so sick of homework it is real hard for me to stay focused and finish all this stuff. Here is a list of things that need to get done this weekend.
1. 12 page paper (7.5 pages done)
2. Reflection on an interview
3. Fake report for class
4. Final therapy reports (two to be exact)
5. Session review (DONE!!)
6. cleft Palate definitions
7. Cleft Palate structure labeling

So now I have to get back to paper writing because I am not aloud to go see Harry Potter until 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 are completed.

Guess What! It Snowed

Yes it snowed up here in Central Wisconsin. And this isn't like the almost snow Illinois got. No, no, this snow covered the ground and took away a bunch of peoples power too. We now have three inches of snow and I have decided to break out my spiffy new boots. As I write this I am at school but when I get home I will add a picture of my boots to the site. So now its cold and it takes me about 10 min. just to get all bundled up to walk to school.

On a separate note, last weekend I bought our wedding invitations. Yeah that's exciting. And me being the super saver shopper and refuse to spend a million dollars on one day in my life found them at WalMart. So 120 invitations cost us $53.oo, that includes invitations, evnelopes, response cards, envelops and envelop seals. Real awesome right. Now all we have to do is print them up and that won't take us very long once we figure out the stupid guest list. Yippy. I would post a picture of the invitations but they aren't very photo genic and for all of you coming to the wedding they will be a surprise for you when they come in the mail.

Out of order for a bit

This week is way stressful. Between the two papers, three reports, two Diagnostics, progress notes, test, and a few other mini assignments I do not think I will post much for this week. So you all might want to take the week off in checking up on Kelly's life.

Numa Numa

Most of you by now have probably seen the Numa Numa video with the guy lip-singing to the Numa Numa song. If you haven't seen it here is the link to the site for your own enjoyment. http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/numa.php Now this video gave us hours of enjoyment when we first found it but we were determined to find yet another video for this up beat song. And well here it is. http://www.koreus.com/files/200407/lego-zone.html This is not like the original video NOOOO! This one is with LEGO men. Yes that is right Lego men. Everytime I watch this I can't help but laughing and watching in amazement. Honestly who ever took the time to move each little lego piece to get this final product has too much time on there hands. Hope you enjoy the Lego Numa Numa as much as I do. Make it a full screen for better enjoyment.

I love Thursdays

Thursdays are so nice now. I have a busy morning between 7:45 and 1 but after 1:00 I'm done. Today was a fun day because I finally finished organizing the cards and stuff for the raffle and started having people draw. Almost everyone has picked up their stuff. I even waited to draw until 3/4 of the people drew their selections and I got one of the things I really, really wanted. It was the story starters photo cards. It is 134 photo cards with action things on it. It is awesome. These cards I can do anything with. Then I also go three smaller decks of cards that are fun but not as cool.

Then we decided to go to lunch. At lunch I saw the BIGGEST rice krispy treat ever. Now think a little, what is the largest rice krispy treat you have ever seen. And NO when you make your own that doesn't count. I mean that you could have bough. No matter what you say, THIS ONE WAS BIGGER. It was the size of a cookie sheet. It was amazing!

Hope you had a good Thursday also. Keep coming back for more in the life of Little Kelly.

I Don't Know

I don't know what to post about today. Hmmm, let me see. Nothing really exciting happened today so there is not really anything to talk about. We had boring classes one after the other then our client then work where I started to divide up the cards to give away.

Well since nothing different happened today I will just ask What is your favorite activity you do during your day at work/school?

Oh so sorry!

I was a bit distracted yesterday and ended up not posting. So in regards to that, So Sorry.

Today as I was walking to school I noticed a whole bunch of signs plastered around campus. As I got closer I saw that they were for Disney recruiters. This program is kind of like studying abroad except you study at Disney world. This got me thinking... I have never been really excited to study abroad. That is not saying I wouldn't want to travel to those places because I so would want to travel the world but explore places on my own terms and not have school to make it blah. I mean I hate being in school and if I'm over seas I should not be stressed out about my spelling or readings or tests. However, I would LOVE to go Disney world and study. I would just drop everything to have Mickey as my professor, or live in Cinderellas castle (I wonder how much rent would be there?). I don't know what I would study if I went to Disney. I highly doubt they have Speech-Language Pathology event though Donald has some sort of spitting problem. I think I will change my major to Early Childhood Development. Mom, what do you think. BJ, you can study art. If you studied at Disney what would you major in???

The sewing machine Drama

Sew, Tania has been trying to buy this sewing machine from Singer for the past week. However, the problems that just keep coming up are making her try and figure out if it is really worth it. First, she went to JoAnn fabrics and tried to special order it through there. However, they were making her jump through hoops and not accepting her credit card. Then, Tania called her husband and had him buy the machine in Detroit and mail it to her here. But when he went to pay for the machine they told him there were insufficient funds in the account. After a bunch of phone calls they found out that JoAnn's charged the account even though they told them they didn't. So after they canceled the order and got the money back in their account her husband bought the machine and shipped it to her. It arrived here on Wednesday night and she was super excited. Then on Thursday, another sewing machine arrived at her house. After more investigation JoAnn's didn't cancel her order and charged her account once more for the machine. So now she has insufficient funds in her account, two really expensive sewing machines and JoAnn's saying they don't have any recollection of contact with Tania. Sew, we called FedEx yesterday to get them to come back and pick up the boxes because they should have never left it here in the first place. We told them to pick it up at our house though because Tania was going to be gone all day. Well they didn't they went to her apartment and we still have both sewing machines. Tania is way mad. So hopefully everything will get worked out soon but he moral of the story is never buy a sewing machine from JoAnn's.

Christmas in November

Wow actually, it's November and Christmas is almost here. Yikkes!

Well anyway, I showed up to do my assistantship hours today and found four GIANT boxes of "complimentary" items from the Super Duper company. Now anyone who has had any sort of contact with a Speech-Lanugage Pathologist knows that Super Duper is THE COMPANY to get any resource, or activity, or flashcards for any issue. (The Picture is from the deck Fun with cats and dogs). FOUR big boxes. It was amazing. Especially since they are starting to phase out cardboard boxes for all the flashcards. They are now putting them in metal tins that hold up 100 times better than cardboard. So today, I went through just about all of the new items and found the old falling apart items and replaced them all in all up to this point right now we have taken 180 items off the shelves. I am on a cleaning high right now because 1) we have so much stuff that the shelves were getting to crowded so there are half as many items on them now. And 2) all the things that are coming off the shelves we are making into grab bag type of items for all the first and second year graduate students to take home. (Since we can't do Christmas presents we might do first snow gifts instead). But now we have to go through and make 40 different grab bags from all the stuff, this should get very, very interesting.

Look forward to tomorrow when I discuss the sewing machine issue Mrs. Tania is having.

Hasbro

So as my assistantship my job is to clean, organize and update the clinical materials in the speech-language clinic. Well today it was brought to my attention that a few of the games are missing or have broken parts to them. So I thought well wouldn't it be nice if we could replace the games, but that costs a lot of money when you think about replacing 10 games with just one or two game pieces missing but the rest of the thing is just fine. Therefore, I started to investigate and this is what I found:

1. You know how games are made by MB, and Parker Brothers. Yeah, well really they are all made by hasbro and they rule the world when it comes to toys and games and stuff. (Can you say MONOPOLY? And yes they make that game toooo.)

2. You can buy pieces to games like perfection, candyland, and all those other games that have little parts that you fed to the dog when you were little or that have cards that were torn in the fight over who got to go first or who REALLY won the game. The parts cost any where from $0.50 to about $3.00.

3. For every game that you know there are about four different editions for it. For example, there is Candyland, Dora the Explorer Candyland, Winnie the Pooh Land, and like a 25 edition Candyland. Everything you could ever want they have it.
